About Programme
Diploma in Practical English & Life Skills (DPELS) - Duration: 1 year
Diploma in Practical English & Life Skills programme is designed with a focus on building English communication abilities of Indian students and making them job-ready. It is a unique one year part-time diploma programme under Symbiosis International (Deemed University). It has an exit option after Semester-I (Certificate programme under ELTIS).
Objectives:
1. To improve students’ confidence to use English in practical situations.
2. To develop students’ ability to comprehend and use the language effectively in different scenarios in everyday life and profession.
3. To help students neutralize their accent and train them in presentation skills.
4. To make students employable/ job-ready in various commercial avenues.

Who can join?
Students, employees, aspiring entrepreneurs, working professionals, and homemakers.
Eligibility:
Std. XII passed or a Diploma holder after High School / Secondary Education.
Eligibility for Examination:
- Minimum 75% attendance in each course
- Minimum 75% attendance over all the programme
Assessment:
● All Internal courses will have 100% components as internal evaluation will take place at the Institute Level.
● All external courses will have 40% internal component and 60% external component.
● Students with 75% attendance will be eligible to take the semester end exams by SIU.
● External exams by SIU will be held at the end of each semester for eligible students.
● Courses 1 to 6 will have an external examination.
● Course 7 will be non-exam grade course.
● The total assessment for both the semesters will be out of 750 marks.
Criteria for passing:
50% per course and 60% aggregate.
Certification:
- Students will be awarded a Certificate in Practical English and Life Skills by the institute after successfully completing the first semester.
- Students will be awarded an Advanced Certificate in Practical English and Life Skills by the institute after successfully completing the second semester.
- Students will be awarded a Diploma in Practical English and Life Skills under Symbiosis International (Deemed University) after passing both the semester end examinations.
